Best Shopify Blog Apps in 2026 (Tested & Compared by a Founder)

An Honest Comparison (Including Our Own App)

I'm Robbie. I built SEOBoss, one of the apps on this page, so I'm obviously biased. But I've spent months looking at every major Shopify blog tool available, and I wanted to build the comparison I wish had existed when I was starting out. I've tried to be as accurate and fair as I can. If I've got something wrong, email me at robbie@seoboss.com and I'll fix it within 24 hours.

No sponsorships. No paid placements. Apps are listed because they exist and are relevant, not because anyone paid to be included.

Most Shopify blog apps solve one problem: helping you write posts. Fewer solve the harder problem: helping those posts get found. That difference between generating content and building a content system that compounds over time is what this comparison is really about.

Who this page is for

  • Shopify store owners who want their blog driving organic traffic without spending hours writing
  • Merchants evaluating their first blog app and unsure which category suits them
  • Founders currently on a tool that isn't delivering and wondering what else is out there
The 2026 Context

What Actually Matters in 2026

Writing blog posts is no longer the hard part. Any AI tool can generate a post in 60 seconds. The question is what happens to that post after it exists. Does it connect to other content? Does it link to your products? Does it get found?

What most apps optimise for

  • Article output volume
  • Speed of generation
  • Cheapest cost per post
  • Scheduling automation

What actually builds traffic

  • Articles that link together into a network
  • Content that avoids duplicating what exists
  • Posts that answer the specific questions buyers ask
  • Structured content AI tools can extract and cite

Publishing content is not the same as building traffic. This comparison is built around that distinction. Most Shopify blogs don't fail because they don't publish. They fail because nothing connects.

At a Glance

Key Takeaways

  • Most Shopify blog apps help you write posts. Fewer help those posts get found and build into a content system over time. That distinction matters more as AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini become primary discovery channels.
  • autoBlogger is the most trusted automation tool in this category (2x Shopify Staff Pick, 4.9 stars, 67 reviews) and a strong benchmark for what good full automation looks like.
  • AI Blog Agent offers the most generous free plan (12 posts per month, free forever) and is the right starting point for merchants testing the category with no budget commitment.
  • BlogSEO has dropped from 4.0 to 2.5 stars as of April 2026. Significant user-reported issues, unresponsive support, and concerns about review integrity mean we would approach it with caution based on publicly visible issues reviewed in April 2026.
  • SEOBoss reads your store's content index before writing every article and checks new topics against what's already published to prevent duplicate coverage. Based on our research, no other tool on this page publicly documents this capability.
  • SEOBoss includes an open writing brief field (the Intent field) that passes directly to the AI prompt for each article. Other apps use keyword inputs and tone selectors. No other app on this page offers an unrestricted per-article writing brief at this level of specificity.
  • SEOBoss launches publicly on the Shopify App Store May 1, 2026. The 7-day trial writes 4 full articles on your actual store so you don't need to rely on a review count that doesn't exist yet.
  • DropInBlog's Mention Boost is the only tool designed specifically to get your content cited in ChatGPT and AI Overviews. A genuinely forward-looking feature for AI discoverability.

How the Apps Are Grouped

The 12 apps in this comparison fall into four distinct buckets. Understanding which bucket you need is more important than comparing individual features.

Full Automation

Set it up, let it run. You trade control for consistency. Best if you need hands-off blog publishing on a schedule.

AI Blog Builders with Editor

Generate content in-app, edit before publishing. More control, more time. Best if you want to shape each post.

Blog Design Tools

Better editor, not AI generation. The right tool if Shopify's native editor frustrates you and design matters.

All-in-One SEO Suites

Technical SEO first, blog content second. Best if you want a single app handling everything from page speed to blog posts.

The Comparison Table

A note on pricing: Most tools on this list charge based on how many articles they generate. SEOBoss is priced as a content system, not an article generator. The price includes built-in keyword research (DataForSEO), store-aware AI writing, a custom intent field, and a dedicated internal linking pass. The article count column below shows what each plan actually delivers at its entry price.

Scroll horizontally on desktop to see all 12 columns. The SEOBoss row is highlighted: this is our app. Columns: pricing, free plan, AI writing, store-aware content, custom writing brief, duplicate prevention, keyword research, AI discovery readiness, internal linking, approval workflow, scheduling.

Individual App Profiles

Honest Profiles of Every App

Each profile follows the same structure: what the app does well, who it is right for, and genuine limitations worth knowing before you install. Profiles cover the top apps in each category.

autoBlogger

4.9 ★  67 reviews 2x Staff Pick Built for Shopify $9.95/mo

Full-automation blog publishing with the best quality output in the set-and-forget category.

autoBlogger is the most polished automation tool in this comparison. It has won Shopify's Staff Pick award twice, and the quality of output reflects that recognition. On Growth and Pro plans, it runs on OpenAI's latest models (OpenAI's latest available model), which produces noticeably better content than apps running on older model versions.

It is built for merchants who want a blog that grows in the background: set your topics, set your schedule, and posts go out without any further input. Articles include FAQs, TLDRs, and tables of contents. Growth and Pro plans add social sharing to your channels and a backlink network to build domain authority over time. Internal links to your products are included on all plans. The developer, Ollie, has a strong reputation for responsiveness.

The honest trade-off: there is no approval gate between writing and publishing. Articles go live on schedule without you reviewing them first. If you want to check every post before it reaches your audience, this workflow requires setting aside time to review proactively rather than reactively. The app only writes in American English, so stores writing for UK, Australian, or international audiences should weigh that. Images tend to follow the same visual style across posts.

Genuine strengths

  • 2x Shopify Staff Pick: strongest editorial credibility in the category
  • OpenAI's latest models on Growth/Pro plans: best model access available
  • Social sharing and backlink network for domain authority
  • Responsive developer with a reputation for quick support

Worth knowing

  • No free plan: 14-day trial only, then $9.95/mo minimum
  • American English only: no support for UK/AU/international English variants
  • Posts publish on schedule without an approval step
  • Same image style repeated across all posts

AI Blog Agent

4.9 ★  152 reviews Built for Shopify Free plan available From $6.99/mo

The most generous free plan in the automation category, with Built for Shopify certification.

AI Blog Agent from Go Plus NZ stands out for one clear reason: its free plan is the best in the automation category. You get 12 posts per month at no cost, with no credit expiry. For stores that want to test whether AI blogging is worth investing in before spending anything, this is the right starting point.

The app runs on schedule without manual intervention, includes internal product links, supports multiple languages, and generates AI images alongside posts. At $6.99/mo for 30 posts, it is the lowest-cost paid entry in this comparison. With 152 reviews and Built for Shopify certification, it has earned meaningful independent validation.

The honest trade-off: the content quality at this price point means posts often need a light editorial pass before they represent your brand well. There are no in-app editing tools, so that review happens outside the app. Support response times have been inconsistent according to recent reviews, which matters if you encounter an issue at a critical time.

Genuine strengths

  • 12 posts per month on the free plan, no expiry
  • Built for Shopify certification with 152 reviews
  • Product linking and multi-language support across all plans
  • Lowest paid entry price in the automation category at $6.99/mo

Worth knowing

  • Content often needs editing before publishing: plan for a review step
  • No in-app editor: reviewing and editing happens outside the tool
  • Support response times reported as variable in recent reviews
  • Product awareness is limited to link insertion rather than contextual mentions

Tapita SEO AI Blog Builder

5.0 ★  439 reviews Built for Shopify Free plan available From $9.99/mo

Strong drag-and-drop editor with real-time SEO scoring and a genuine free tier for getting started.

Tapita occupies the middle ground between full automation and manual writing tools. It generates AI content and then lets you edit it in a drag-and-drop visual editor before publishing. The real-time SEO scoring gives you feedback as you write. With 439 reviews at a perfect 5.0 rating and Built for Shopify certification, it has the largest validated user base of any editor-based blog tool in this comparison.

The free tier gives you 50 credits on installation (enough for approximately 5 posts) to test the full feature set before committing. Paid plans unlock bulk scheduling, additional languages, and shoppable post links that let readers add products to their cart from within a blog article. For merchants who want both AI assistance and editorial control over the final output, Tapita covers that workflow.

The honest trade-off: a meaningful number of reviews mention app slowness and occasional bugs in the editor. A specific issue worth knowing: the app leaves code in your Shopify theme after uninstall (according to multiple App Store reviews), which requires manual cleanup. Some users have also reported aggressive post-install email campaigns. These are not universal experiences, but they appear frequently enough in the review record to mention.

Genuine strengths

  • 5.0 stars across 439 reviews: the highest-reviewed editor tool in the category
  • Drag-and-drop editor with real-time SEO scoring as you write
  • Shoppable links let readers add products from within the article
  • Bulk generation and scheduling for building content at volume

Worth knowing

  • App slowness and editor bugs reported across multiple reviews
  • Leaves code in your Shopify theme after uninstall: requires manual removal
  • Post-install email campaigns described as aggressive by some users
  • Advanced/Plus plan users pay an additional fee on top of standard pricing

Essential AI SEO: AI Blog Post

5.0 ★  412 reviews Built for Shopify Free plan available From $9.99/mo

A focused AI generation layer designed to pair with design apps like Bloggle or Avada.

Essential AI SEO has the highest combined signal of any app in this comparison: 5.0 stars across 412 reviews with Built for Shopify certification. That combination is meaningful. A perfect rating with a handful of reviews can reflect selection bias; 412 reviews at 5.0 is harder to dismiss.

The app is designed specifically as a content generation layer. It handles bulk article creation across 13 languages, adds AI images, and schedules posts at volume. The design philosophy is deliberate: it does one thing well and defers the design and layout layer to companion apps. It is explicitly built to integrate with Bloggle for design, Avada for editing, and SEOWILL for technical SEO. If you already use one of those tools, Essential AI SEO fits into that stack cleanly.

The honest trade-off: if you need blog design tools, conversion optimization, or a rich editorial interface, this app does not provide them. It is a generation and scheduling engine, not a full blog management platform. For merchants who want to produce content at volume and handle design separately (or not at all), it is a strong, well-priced option.

Genuine strengths

  • 5.0 stars, 412 reviews: the most credible rating signal in the category
  • Bulk generation and scheduling for high-volume content needs
  • 13-language support with AI images included
  • Clean integration with Bloggle, Avada, and SEOWILL

Worth knowing

  • No blog design tools: layout and styling require a separate app
  • No content strategy features: keyword research and topic planning are outside scope
  • Works best as part of a multi-app stack rather than as a standalone solution
  • No built-in editor: review and editing happens outside the app
View on Shopify App Store ↗

Bloggle: SEO Blog Builder

4.8 ★  327 reviews From $19.90/mo 14-day trial

The best blog design and editing tool in the Shopify category, for brands that care about how their content looks.

If the question is purely about blog design and editorial control, Bloggle appears strongest in this comparison if design control is your priority. No other app in this list gives you the same level of visual control over your blog layout. The drag-and-drop editor is genuinely good, the live SEO scoring updates as you write, and the Business plan adds a conversion scoring feature that evaluates each post for commercial effectiveness, not just keyword coverage. The Klaviyo integration and product gallery blocks are features you won't find elsewhere at this price point.

Bloggle is built for brands that take their content seriously: teams that write their own posts (or hire writers), want full creative control over layout, and need the blog to feel like a deliberate editorial expression of the brand rather than templated AI output. With 327 reviews at 4.8 stars, it has earned real independent credibility over time.

The honest trade-off: Bloggle does not generate AI content at all. You bring the writing; Bloggle handles the presentation. If you are looking for an app that produces articles for you, this is not it. The import function has caused issues for some users, with reports of it breaking existing blog structure. Bloggle applies its own styling site-wide, which can conflict with existing theme styles, and there is no free plan.

Genuine strengths

  • Best-in-class drag-and-drop editor: the clearest design advantage in the category
  • Live SEO scoring and conversion scoring (Business plan) for editorial feedback
  • Product galleries and Klaviyo integration for commerce-oriented posts
  • 327 reviews at 4.8 stars: strong long-term credibility

Worth knowing

  • No AI content generation: you write the content or source it separately
  • Import function has caused issues for some users, including broken blog structure
  • Applies its own styling site-wide, which may conflict with your existing theme
  • No free plan: 14-day trial then $19.90/mo minimum

DropInBlog: Blog Engine

4.7 ★  188 reviews From $49/mo 7-day trial

The most sophisticated blog infrastructure in this comparison, built for content teams and agencies rather than solo store owners.

DropInBlog is in a different category to most apps here. Rather than adding a blog module to your Shopify store, it replaces the blog infrastructure entirely with a purpose-built content management system. The result is a level of feature depth that no other app in this comparison reaches: staging environments, audit logs, team permissions, author management, and E-E-A-T signals through proper author bios.

Two features are genuinely novel. Mention Boost is designed to get your content cited in ChatGPT responses and AI Overviews, addressing a real gap in how most blog tools approach search visibility in 2025 and 2026. Blog Voice AI converts written posts to audio files, turning your blog into a podcast feed with no additional production work. If your content strategy includes appearing in AI-generated answers and building a listening audience, these features are not available elsewhere at this price point.

The honest trade-off: DropInBlog is priced for content teams, not solo merchants. At $49/mo for the solo plan and $499/mo for the Business tier, the economics only work if your blog is a serious channel with dedicated editorial resources. The AI Blog Pilot helps with topic ideas and outlines but does not generate full articles: all writing is manual. If you are a solo store owner looking for AI content generation, this is not the right tool.

Genuine strengths

  • Mention Boost for AI citation optimization in ChatGPT and AI Overviews
  • Blog Voice AI for text-to-podcast conversion with no production overhead
  • Full team infrastructure: permissions, author management, staging environments
  • Product embeds with add-to-cart functionality directly within posts

Worth knowing

  • Pricing starts at $49/mo: built for teams and agencies, not solo store owners
  • No AI content generation: all articles are written manually
  • AI Blog Pilot covers topic ideas and outlines only, not full article drafts
  • No free plan: 7-day trial only

SEOWILL (formerly SEOAnt)

4.8 ★  1,550 reviews Built for Shopify Free plan available From $29.99/mo

The largest user base in the category. A comprehensive technical SEO suite that includes a blog module as one of many tools.

SEOWILL (developed by CWILL, formerly known as SEOAnt) has 1,550 reviews, more than any other app in this comparison by a significant margin. It is a genuine all-in-one SEO platform covering the full technical stack: site audit, page speed optimization, image compression, broken link scanning, JSON-LD schema, meta tag management, and a blog content module. The recent addition of ChatGPT and Gemini visibility features, including llms.txt generation, positions it as one of the few apps actively addressing AI search optimization.

The free plan includes 30 blog credits alongside access to the core technical SEO tools, making it one of the more complete free entry points in the category. For stores that need comprehensive technical SEO coverage and want blog generation as part of the same tool, SEOWILL covers that use case.

The honest trade-off: the blog module is a secondary feature within a larger SEO platform, not the primary product. At 1,550 reviews, even a small percentage of negative reviews represents a meaningful number of real users. A recurring theme in critical reviews includes image optimization breaking store image URLs, unexpected billing practices (reported by users in App Store reviews), and code remaining in the theme after uninstall. These are not majority experiences, but with a user base this large, they are worth factoring into your decision.

Genuine strengths

  • Largest user base in the category: 1,550 reviews with Built for Shopify certification
  • Comprehensive technical SEO: audit, speed, images, links, schema, meta tags in one tool
  • ChatGPT/Gemini visibility features and llms.txt generation for AI search
  • Free plan with 30 blog credits and basic technical SEO tools included

Worth knowing

  • Blog generation is secondary to the technical SEO focus
  • Reports of image optimization breaking existing store image URLs
  • Unexpected billing practices described in a subset of reviews
  • Code reported to remain in theme after uninstall: requires manual cleanup

BlogSEO: AI Blog and AI SEO

2.5 ★  59 reviews Free plan available From $19/mo

Included for completeness only. Not currently recommended.

BlogSEO had the most comprehensive feature set of any purpose-built AI blog tool in early 2026: 31 languages, YouTube video-to-blog conversion, keyword research, Google Search Console integration, and 24 AI content tools in a single interface. On paper, it was the most fully-featured option in this category.

Update: April 2026

We are including BlogSEO here for completeness, not as a recommendation. As of April 2026, the app's rating has dropped from 4.0 to 2.5 stars across 59 reviews. Multiple users report significant issues: credits being removed without explanation, support that does not respond, and tools that fail to load. We would approach it cautiously based on the publicly visible issues we reviewed in April 2026. If the situation improves, we will update this section.

What it offered

  • 31 languages: the broadest language support in the category
  • YouTube video-to-blog conversion: a genuinely useful format tool
  • Keyword research and Google Search Console integration
  • 24 AI content tools in a single platform

Current concerns

  • Rating has fallen from 4.0 to 2.5 stars since early 2026
  • Multiple user reports of credits removed without explanation
  • Support described as unresponsive across multiple recent reviews
  • Tools reported to fail to load for a significant subset of users

Full Disclosure: This Is Our App

SEOBoss: The Store-Aware Content System

In one sentence: SEOBoss is a Shopify-native content system that reads your store, prevents duplicate content, and builds a connected internal linking network with every article it writes. It runs your blog while you run your store.

Built by Robbie in Wellington, New Zealand. Accepted on the Shopify App Store on February 13, 2026, and launching publicly on May 1, 2026. This is our app, so take what follows with the appropriate grain of salt. I've tried to be as honest here as I've been everywhere else on this page.

The 7-day trial includes 4 full articles written for your actual store using your products, your niche, and your existing content. You review every draft before anything goes anywhere.

Pricing: $97/mo (30 articles = $3.23/article), $147/mo (75 articles = $1.96/article), $297/mo (200 articles = $1.49/article). Higher than most tools on this page. The reasons are below.

The Intent Field

The most powerful feature in SEOBoss and the one no other app on this list has. A free-text writing brief with no character limit that passes directly into the AI generation prompt. You write what the article should cover: specific data points, product mentions, local context, audience framing, angle, what to avoid. The AI receives it as explicit instructions, not a suggestion. When the Intent conflicts with the tone setting, the Intent wins. See the full guide. You are not prompting AI. You are briefing it like a writer.

Store-Aware Content

Before every article, SEOBoss reads your store's content index: product titles, article titles, page titles, and categories. This context is passed to the AI during generation. Articles reference your actual products, avoid duplicating content you've already published, and link to what your store actually sells. No other app on this page reads your store before writing. This is what we call the Site Brain: a live map of your store that every article is written against.

Dedicated Internal Linking Pass (OpenAI's latest model)

After the article body is written, a separate AI pass using OpenAI's latest model reads your full published content library (up to 50 articles, 20 products, 20 pages, 10 custom links) and evaluates, semantically, where links in this new article would be natural and relevant. This is not keyword matching. It is an AI evaluating contextual relevance. The result: 0-3 article links and 0-1 product link inserted into the body, plus a "Keep Reading" related posts block. As your library grows, the linking network gets denser.

The library compounds instead of cannibalising. Every article you publish makes the next one smarter, better linked, and harder to duplicate.

Search Discovery (DataForSEO)

Built-in keyword research powered by DataForSEO. Three modes: People Also Ask (real questions your customers search for, with volume and trend data), keyword search (related terms with CPC and keyword difficulty scores), and Purchase Intent URL (paste a competitor's product page and extract the keywords they rank for). No separate keyword tool needed.

Multi-Stage AI Pipeline

Every article runs through a 29-step n8n pipeline with distinct AI stages: OpenAI's current generation of models, with different model configurations for different tasks: title generation, article body writing, FAQ generation, and a dedicated pass for the internal linking engine. SEOBoss runs on the latest available OpenAI models and updates as better versions are released. This is not one prompt into one output. It is a production pipeline where each step specialises in its job: keyword research, titles, body, FAQ, internal linking, final assembly.

The Hints System

Before you type a keyword, SEOBoss has already generated store-aware article ideas specific to your niche. Each hint comes with a "WHY" reasoning note explaining why this topic is suggested based on what's already published on your store and what gaps exist. Click a hint to use it. Hints are generated against your existing content to avoid duplication. Refresh for new ideas any time. Each suggestion is gap-informed: it identifies what your store is missing, not just what topics exist in the category. Most tools start from scratch every time. SEOBoss improves as your content grows.

CSV Upload with Per-Article Intent Fields

Upload a structured CSV with keywords, titles, metadata, and a unique intent field for each article. This means you can research and brief 50 articles at once, upload them, and the system executes each one with its specific writing instructions. This is the basis of the SEOBoss Launch Kit service. No other app on this list supports per-article writing briefs at batch scale.

Reference URL + 7 Tones + Proof Guardrails

Paste any URL (competitor article, research paper, product page) and the pipeline fetches, cleans, and uses it as factual source material for that article. Choose from 7 tones (Professional, Advertorial, Fun, Question/FAQ, Research, Recipe/How-To, Custom). Write your own voice description in Custom tone. And across all modes: built-in proof guardrails instruct the AI to never fabricate statistics or invent claims, regardless of what the intent says.

The Intent Field in Practice

What a real writing brief looks like

The intent field is where you tell SEOBoss exactly what kind of article to write, who it's for, and how your products fit in. Here's the difference it makes for a pet supplies store selling premium New Zealand dog treats.

Without intent field

Keyword only:

"best treats for training a puppy"

What you get:

  • Generic 800-word article about dog treats in general
  • No mention of your actual products or brand
  • Written for a hypothetical store, not yours
  • No internal links, no product references, no FAQ

With SEOBoss intent field

Keyword:

"best treats for training a puppy"

Intent field:

"We sell premium freeze-dried dog treats made in New Zealand from single ingredients. Our best-seller is our Lamb Lung treats ($18.90). Why SEOBoss costs more (and when that matters)

Most tools on this page charge based on how many articles they can generate. SEOBoss is priced differently. You are not paying for article volume.

You are paying for a system that:

  • Reads your store before writing every article
  • Checks existing content to prevent duplicate coverage
  • Builds internal links at write time using your full content library
  • Includes built-in keyword and question research (DataForSEO)
  • Applies a custom writing brief per article through the Intent field
  • Structures content for AI discovery, not just Google rankings

If your goal is...

To publish the cheapest possible articles at volume, there are better options on this page. AI Blog Agent, Essential AI SEO, and autoBlogger will all do that for less.

If your goal is...

To build a content system that understands your store, connects your articles, and compounds over time, that is what SEOBoss is designed for.

The real comparison is not price. It is what your content library looks like after 90 days.

What does the price actually mean per article?

The headline price comparison looks bad for SEOBoss. Here is the per-article cost in context:

App Plan Cost/mo Articles/mo Cost per article Article includes
AI Blog Agent Pro $18.99 160 $0.12 AI text, product links, images
Essential AI SEO Essential $29.99 100 $0.30 AI text, SEO score, images
autoBlogger Growth $19.95 ~13 $1.54 AI text, FAQs, product links, social sharing
SEOBoss Starter $97 30 $3.23 Store-aware text, intent-driven, FAQ + JSON-LD, dedicated AI internal linking, related posts, metadata
SEOBoss Growth $147 75 $1.96 Same as above

The honest question is not "which is cheapest?" but "what does each article actually do for the store?" It also helps to know that SEOBoss includes a DataForSEO-powered keyword research tool in every plan. Standalone keyword research tools typically cost $99-200 per month. That is bundled into the plan price. A generic 800-word AI post costs $0.12. A store-aware article with a dedicated linking pass, FAQ schema, related posts, and an intent brief costs $1.96-$3.23. Whether that difference is worth it depends entirely on what you're building.

What happens in 3 months with other tools

Most Shopify blog apps have no awareness of what you have already published. They write from a keyword. That is it. Three months in, stores running generic tools face a predictable problem: duplicate topics, overlapping angles, and a content library that competes with itself instead of compounding.

SEOBoss checks your full content library before every generation. Published articles, pipeline articles, products, and pages. The hints engine uses this context to surface topics that fill genuine gaps rather than repeat what already exists. The internal linking pass connects each new article to the network that came before it.

Niche authority is built by covering a topic landscape systematically, not by generating the same ten articles with slightly different titles.

What to consider before choosing SEOBoss

What we don't do Who does it better Does it matter for you?
Free plan AI Blog Agent (12 free/mo), Essential AI SEO (3 free/mo) If you're pre-revenue or testing the category, yes. If your store is generating income, the trial covers it.
Multi-language (built-in) Avada (multilingual), Essential AI (13 languages) If you sell internationally across languages, yes. Note: the Intent field can target specific markets: "write sections of this article in Korean for Korean-speaking customers" works as a workaround. Multi-language support is also on the roadmap.
Blog design tools Bloggle (best editor), Tapita (drag-and-drop) If visual layout matters more than content output, yes. SEOBoss produces clean Shopify-ready HTML.
Cheapest per article AI Blog Agent ($0.12/article at volume) If you need 100+ generic articles per month on a minimal budget, yes. If article quality and store relevance matter, the cost gap shrinks considerably.
Review history Most apps here have 100+ reviews SEOBoss launches publicly May 1, 2026. Reviews come after real use. The 7-day trial exists so you can make the call yourself.

If you want a tool that writes any blog post about any topic and publishes it on a schedule, autoBlogger or AI Blog Agent will serve you better and cost less. If you want a content system that understands what your store sells, writes articles informed by your actual products and published content, uses a dedicated AI pass to build your internal linking network, and lets you pre-brief every article with specific research and instructions, that is what SEOBoss is built for.

Looking Ahead

Where Shopify blogging is heading

The landscape is shifting. For the last decade, Shopify blogging meant one thing: ranking in Google. That's still important, but it's no longer the only discovery channel that matters. Buyers are increasingly finding products through AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot. Your blog content now needs to be structured in a way that AI tools can extract and cite, not just in a way Google's crawler can index.

What this means in practice: FAQ schema, clean structured HTML, specific answers to specific questions, and content that links to what you actually sell. Generic keyword-stuffed posts are becoming less effective in both channels. Google is surfacing AI Overviews that pull from well-structured content. ChatGPT is citing sources that answer questions clearly and directly.

The stores building structured content systems now (consistent posting cadence, proper internal linking, schema markup) are positioning for both current Google rankings and emerging AI discovery. This is not a future prediction. It is happening today.

The tools on this page that are adapting to this shift: DropInBlog's Mention Boost (explicitly designed for AI citation), SEOWILL's llms.txt generation (a machine-readable file that tells AI crawlers what your site is about), autoBlogger's autoLLMs feature (formatting content for AI readability), and SEOBoss's structured FAQ generation and internal linking system (building the kind of content network that AI tools can navigate and cite).

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Shopify blog app for SEO?

It depends on what SEO means for your store. For technical SEO covering site speed, image optimization, and broken links alongside blog content, SEOWILL or StoreSEO give the broadest coverage. For building a structured content network that drives organic traffic over time, SEOBoss reads your store's product and content index before writing every article, so content links to what you actually sell and avoids duplicating what is already published. For pure blog design with manual SEO control, Bloggle is the strongest option. Short version: autoBlogger for consistent automated output, SEOBoss for store-aware content that compounds, Bloggle for editorial control over how your blog looks.

What is the best Shopify blog app in 2026?

There is no single best app. It depends on what you need. For full automation with the strongest track record, autoBlogger (2x Shopify Staff Pick) is the market leader. For the best free plan, AI Blog Agent offers 12 posts per month at no cost. For blog design, Bloggle has the best editor. For store-aware content that references your actual products, SEOBoss is the only option. The "best" app is the one that matches your specific needs and budget.

Which Shopify blog apps have a free plan?

Several apps offer free plans: AI Blog Agent (12 posts/month, the most generous), Auto Blogs Agent (3/month), Essential AI SEO (3/month), Tapita (~5 posts via 50 non-recurring credits), Avada SEO AI (20 non-recurring credits), SEOWILL (30 credits), and StoreSEO (500 credits). Note that some "free" plans use non-recurring credits that don't refresh monthly.

Does autoBlogger publish articles without my approval?

Yes. autoBlogger is designed as a set-and-forget automation tool. Articles publish on the schedule you configure (weekly, three times a week, or daily) without a manual review step. This is by design: the product's value proposition is hands-off automation. If you need to review every article before it goes live, consider an app with a draft-first workflow like SEOBoss, or use AI Blog Agent with its optional approval setting.

What is the difference between autoBlogger and AI Blog Agent?

Both are full automation tools, but they serve different budgets and use cases. autoBlogger ($9.95-$29.95/mo) has 2x Shopify Staff Pick status, a backlink network, social sharing, and uses OpenAI's latest model on paid plans. It has no free plan. AI Blog Agent ($0-$18.99/mo) has the most generous free tier in the category (12 posts/month) and Built for Shopify certification, but the content may need more editing before publishing. If budget is your priority, AI Blog Agent wins. If proven quality and extra features matter more, autoBlogger has the stronger track record.

Is BlogSEO AI still a good option in 2026?

No. As of April 2026, BlogSEO's rating has collapsed from 4.0 stars to 2.5 stars. There are active significant user-reported issues on Reddit and in Shopify App Store reviews, reports of credits being wiped without explanation, concerns about review integrity, and non-existent customer support. We would approach it cautiously based on the publicly visible issues we reviewed in April 2026. If the situation changes, we will update this page.

Which app is best for Shopify blog design?

Bloggle ($19.90-$79.90/mo) is the clear leader for blog design. Its drag-and-drop editor produces polished blog layouts with SEO scoring, conversion scoring, author bios, product galleries, and Klaviyo integration. It does not offer AI content generation, so you would pair it with a generation tool like Essential AI SEO or Avada for a combined workflow. Tapita also offers a drag-and-drop editor combined with AI generation if you want both in one app.

What does "store-aware" mean in a blog app?

Store-aware means the app reads your store's content index (product titles, existing articles, page titles, categories, and metadata) before generating every article. This context is passed to the AI during writing, so the content references products you actually sell and avoids duplicating topics you've already covered. SEOBoss is currently the only app in this comparison that publicly documents this capability. Other apps generate content based on keywords alone, without knowledge of your specific store.

Which blog app is best for getting cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity?

DropInBlog's Mention Boost feature is explicitly designed for this purpose and is currently the only tool offering it directly. SEOWILL generates llms.txt files (a machine-readable file that helps AI crawlers understand your site). autoBlogger's autoLLMs feature formats content to be more readable and citable by AI tools. SEOBoss generates structured FAQ sections with JSON-LD schema, which helps AI tools extract and cite specific answers. This is an emerging space, and most tools are still adapting.

Can I use more than one Shopify blog app at the same time?

Yes. In fact, some apps are designed to work alongside others. Essential AI SEO integrates with Bloggle, Avada, and SEOWILL, acting as a generation layer you pair with a design or SEO tool. A common combination: use Essential AI SEO or Avada for content generation, then Bloggle for design and layout. Just be aware that running multiple apps that modify your blog can sometimes cause conflicts, particularly with apps that inject their own theme code.
